Government Backs Greater Lincolnshire With £34m to Prepare Land for New Homes

This major funding boost will prepare underused land for development, unlocking space for new homes and supporting growth in communities across our area.

Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority has welcomed a major Government boost, with £34m of funding to unlock stalled Brownfield housing sites and bringing previously developed land back into economic use.

The funding is expected to support regeneration in communities across Greater Lincolnshire. It will help speed up development of underused sites, attract new investment and create better opportunities for residents. This work is part of the Authority’s priority to ensure residents have access to priority to ensure residents have access to homes they can afford, in good locations, that suit their needs.

The Combined Authority is now waiting for full details from Government about how the funding can be used. Once this information is published, the authority will work closely with local councils, landowners and developers to decide which sites should be supported first. This will support our housing pipeline and fit with our emerging Housing Strategy, helping us focus the funding on the sites that can bring the most benefit to people across Greater Lincolnshire.

Deputy Mayor Ingrid said:

This is fantastic news for Greater Lincolnshire. This funding gives us a real chance to bring previously developed land back into use and unlock new opportunities for homes, jobs and growth. Brownfield sites can be challenging to develop, but this support means we can move faster and make real progress. Once we have the full details from Government, we will work with our partners to make sure the funding delivers the biggest benefits for our communities.

This funding can contribute towards clearing land, preparing sites and improving ground conditions so development can move forward more quickly. It also supports the Combined County Authority’s wider plans for good quality homes, thriving local centres and places that are well connected for everyone.

About the Brownfield Fund

The Brownfield Fund is a government programme that helps local areas bring old or unused land back into use for new homes and regeneration. Brownfield land is land that was used before but is now empty, under‑used or in need of work before development can begin.

The fund can contribute towards work such as clearing sites, improving ground conditions, carrying out surveys and removing barriers that make development difficult or costly. Its purpose is to help councils and local partners prepare land so new homes and improvements can be delivered more quickly.
