World-class Innovation comes to Lincolnshire as Great Exhibition returns
Robots, driverless transport and international delegates are heading to Lincolnshire as the Great Exhibition returns bigger and bolder than ever.
A robot will be the compere for a conference in Lincolnshire in a first of its kind for the county.
The remarkable host called Luka will introduce the speakers at this year’s Great Exhibition of Lincolnshire at the Epic Centre.
In addition, attendees will be ferried around the site in a driverless Ohmio Shuttle's bus as a demonstration of the technology being explored for deployment across the area.
The exhibition, the creation of Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire Dame Andrea Jenkyns, showcases the area’s pioneering businesses, agricultural producers, and technical innovators.
It is the second year the exhibition will come to Lincolnshire Showground and follows the success of the inaugural event last year.
The expo will focus on the critical part Greater Lincolnshire plays in powering, feeding and protecting the nation.
The robot at the event – supplied by Smart City Consultancy – is called an AgiBot A3 and can speak several languages.
Inspiration for the event came from the famous Great Exhibition of 1851, which was held as the Industrial Revolution propelled Victorian Britain into the greatest power of the time.
Exhibitors at this year event on Wednesday 21 October include Associated British Ports, Humber Energy Board, Step Fusion, Cadent, Eagle Eye, Foldhill, Fruitcast, Gelder and Lindum – with delegations from Taiwan, the US, Bangladesh, Canada and Lithuania also visiting.
Mayor Dame Andrea said the success of last year’s event will catapult this year’s onto new heights.
She added: “This landmark event isn't just a Greater Lincolnshire showcase - it is a live, working demonstration of how our counties secure the nation's food, energy, and land.
"Our exhibitors aren't presenting ideas on paper. They are opening the doors to the technologies that keep the UK's supermarket shelves full, its lights on, and its borders safe.
“I promised to establish this event when I was elected, and I am delighted that it’s become a reality and in its second year.
"This has become a flagship annual event showcasing all that is great about Greater Lincolnshire.”
The Great Exhibition will bring together the region’s pioneering businesses, agricultural producers, and technical innovators to focus on three key areas:
• We Feed: Advancing food production, modern agricultural technology and efficient farming practices.
• We Power: Strengthening energy security and building the regional infrastructure needed to keep the UK running.
• We Protect: Driving innovation in defence, security, and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
The free event starts at 10am and will run until 4pm.
